The Neuroscience Core in the Department of Educational and Social Policy aims at bridging the fundamental brain sciences with the humanities. The outcomes of theoretical and applied brain research are taught at multiple levels, from cellular neurobiology and developmental neurogenetics to systems and integrative neuroscience. Special emphasis is placed on the evolution of nervous tissue and intelligence, admittedly one of the most fascinating topics of modern science. Our research projects are focused on aspects of neuroanatomy and neurocytology, the phylogeny of biological intelligent systems, themes at the crossroads of neurobiology and education, and the historical evolution of ideas in neuroscience. A major effort is concentrated on the revival of the classical neurological work of Constantin von Economo and Georg N. Koskinas.
