The Library and Information Service (L.I.S.) of the University of Macedonia is a contemporary academic library providing substantial educational and information work and fulfilling the requirements of a new and dynamically evolving institution such as the University of Macedonia.

Library located inside the university and the students have the possibility of finding a lot of books, bases of data and electronic magazines. Apart from information on its own property, library also provides information held by other libraries. The Library disposes two large open – access book stacks with corresponding reading space, an audiovisual and multimedia center and an adaptive technology room for services to visually impaired persons.

Library including a reading room which can accommodate more than 300 people. The library may be used by any student possessing a student card. The library’s collection contains approximately 60.000 books volumes and magazines, whereas, the total of electronic journals and databases to which the Library subscribes, amounts more than 10.000 titles.  The library subscribes to about 530 scientific journals and periodicals of which 380 are foreign and 150 Greek. (statistical, bank and chamber editions, marketing, management, economic computers and law magazines etc.).

As an assisting unit to the teaching and research activities of the University, the library has recently developed a range of services to support the educational procedure, according to international practices and standards, with the use of highly qualified technological applications. Therefore, the L.I.S. of the University of Macedonia currently offers:

  • Central portal to online databases
  • Central system for the management of electronic periodicals
  • Online reference services
  • Online personal database and bibliography creating service
  • Online management of circulation and interlibrary loaning requests
  • Online public access catalog for the library’s collections
  • Electronic and print reserve collection of supplemental teaching material
  • Information literacy program
